Hello,
my Name is Hans, I'm from Germany. Maybe you can help me.
I bought a 3.0 V6 S-Type from 2000 with some misfiring problems. There is no engine light on. As I bought the car a few days before it had misfiring when the engine was idle and in acceleration. Today I looked for the sparks and changed the coils. Than I dismantled the car computer (I don't know the right english word --> The ECU(?) right under the dashboard) and cleaned the connectors with contact cleaner. I think the connectors get some water over the cable under the bonnet. Now the car has some misfiring and sounds a little bit strange when the engine is idle, but it is ok when I accelerate and drive.
I read the failure codes and got the following:
P3186 --> variable camshaft timing over advanced bank 2
I had messure the solenoid and it had about 11 ohms, so it seems to be ok.
Has anybody an idea for the problem? Sorry for mistakes in write and grammar :)
Best regards,
Hans
