98 3.9 exhaust leak??

My 98 appears to have an exhaust leak on the left bank, more of a puffing sound that is engine speed releated, let off the gas and it disappears, this is not a mechanical sound that could be valve train related. I suspect maybe a band manifold gasket or a cracked manifold, anybody had any experience with this?
