Passlock Issue - 2001 Chevy Malibu

Hi everyone,

This morning my car wouldn't start and after reading around the web for a while, I've definitely narrowed it down to the Passlock system. I've read about cutting the yellow wire, installing a switch, or even placing some resistors in between the cut, but those are not good fixes in my opinion. I called the dealerships around here and they want $500 to replace the Passlock sensor.

My question to you is, can I simply replace the entire Ignition Lock Cylinder ($160) myself, reprogram the keys, and call it a day?

I think this forum has been there done that enough for you to see the obvious - search the forum! Heck, I even posted the pics of the switch years ago!

Having a problem with passlock on my son's 01 malibu for the 1rst time. Tried the reprogram thing no luck. My theft light isn't blinking tho just steady. Car starts and shuts back off. When the key is turned on, the dash lights take a few seconds to come on. Trying a used ignition today. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
