Checked my oil the other day and saw there was absolutely none on the dipstick, so I put a couple quarts in it and BAM..way over full. So I had to drain those 2 quarts back out in a garage parking lot lol. Now today same thing..checked the oil, none registering on the dipstick..well very little just on the tip. So I dont know if I should pour anymore in or what? Car doesnt smoke, I've given it its regular oil changes, and it doesnt leak any.. soo has anyone else had this same problem? and also could it be sludge in the engine and take a while for the oil to run back to the block? Im going to run out after it sits for a bit and check. Thanks

Check i9t before you start it in the morning. If its at the bottom of the hash marks start by adding 1/2 quart and then check the level.

When you don't see any oil in the dipstick, it doesn't mean that you don't have any oil. It means that you need at least 1/2qt to reach the low range value. And another to reach the full range.
So yes, you need oil. So now, add 1/2qt. And check. Pay attention on the holes. You should have ideally 1 to 3 holes filled.
