Window problem Tamiya Supra

Hello,

Today I've bought myself the Tamiya Toyota Supra kit.
I began painting the window trims, and when I was nearly finished I noticed some minor cracks in the windows and in the windscreen.

However, a few minutes later, the cracks were huge!
Is this because I used thinner to remove the paint I had spilled on the windscreen and the side windows?

I have handled this windows with absolute care, I have not done anything strange.
This is really upsetting me, for I think the kit's ruined now...
How come these cracks, and what should I do now?

Contact Tamiya to get replacement windows. They are a good company and understand things like that happen. - Mark

good this is never use thinner on clear part. it will praticly always fog. You should try to work with acrylic paint for windows, if you make a mistake, you can wash it with water (model master do acrylic paint)

Oh yeah, I've got another question; is it okay to use Tamiya PS (PolyCarbonate) spray on a model?
I heard they were made for polycarbonate transparent R/C bodies, but the salesman in the model shop tells me that it can also be used for non-transparent non-rc car...

is this true?

They can be used. Use primer tough.. just to be safe. I have used a paint for RC cars called Custom Color from Helger Racing. Goes on in a smooth fine spray :)

PolyCarbonate will not give a good finish. they will look like rubber and are ticker than TS line. you could lost many details like panel line. Stay away.

I'm about to use "PS2 red" from Tamiya...
I'm not sure if it will give a good finish.

All other models I've made were painted by brush using little cans of Revell paint, so I'm not experienced at spraypainting.

Absolutely!
Even if you were able to get a uniform finish with it, it will stay somewhat soft and flexible, and to get it to be glossy you will need to clear coat it more than once. You'll end up with way too much paint on the model. - Mark

Sure the PS2 will look better than brush paint body (the worst thing that you could do to a kit) but TS8 will give you much better result.

I would get a can of TS-08 RED, as I used this and the colour is superb. The PS range is for radio control cars with clear plastic flexi body shells. They are not really correct for plastic kits.

In this thread you can see TS-08 RED on my modena. It's an easy colour to apply, and I was pleased with the results. Just be careful with how much you use. I nearly ran out with one can..

I think your picture is lying a bit. The TS8 is darker than this (it's more like the red on the ground of your spray booth.

So do your choice (if you want brighter or darker) Both are Ferrari Color (TS8 old Ferrari, TS49 new)

Unfortunly my model store ran out of TS8 red, and TS41.
Maybe I could use TS Aluminium Gloss?
This is the only gloss TS they still got in stock.

What's your opinion?

TS-17 is a good color. Don't need clear coat to look good (unlike other metalic color) Every Xanavi car use that color (just do a search in motorsport forum for Xanavi)

My picture doesn't look as good, but my camera has a strong flash, and it was taken at 11.00pm.. I can never get a decent picture of my cars..!! :rolleyes: The flash overpowers the picture, and ends up a lot brighter.. Perhaps I'm better at spraying them taking pictures.. :grinno:

But yeah, it was lying a little.. But it's still a nice colour.. Just order a can of RED and wait for it. I would..!!

Hehe, you just have to NOT use the flash. Use external light and use a tripod. Hiroboy have a good tutorial for taking pictures.
