Matra MS11, Tamiya 1/12

Hi

my latest project was the Matra MS11 by Tamiya, according to the date on the sprues the kit is celebrating its 40th birthday.

Fit and quality of the parts was not on typical Tamiya level, you notice how old the kit is. Nevertheless the result can be nice. I built OBB except for some wiring. I used TS10 and Prisma Color clear, small parts with AquaColor, Engine with Tamiya Flat Alu, Alclad Chrome for the tanks, wings covered with BMF Aluminium. Decals were from the kit, according to the date from a 98 reissue, quality was good. I had a small WIP in a German Forum (http://www.modellboard.net/index.php?topic=29020.0).

and now some pictures, hope you like it:

That is unbearably cool! I love this vintage of racer and love anything in French blue. You large-scale builders are some brave souls to work in a size where any flaw will show. But here there are no flaws to criticize. It just looks absolutely beautiful. Formidable und sehr schon!

Extremely nice and clean build.
Everything looks spot on.

Although these older F1 cars are nog my thing, I must admit that this one is looking very good.

Great work. Especially concerning the wings. You have laid down the BMF perfectly. Must have cost a lot of blood, sweat and tears probably (but maybe I'm just too clumsy when it comes to BMF...)

Great job Marco. The Alclad and BMF work are excellent.

Exquisite, and an ideal "completed" post on the last day of the Tour de France. Here's another one for France - chapeaux!

Have to disagree with you there Axel - I think that these older F1 cars are the real deal. All unique, built on a shoestring budget, driven with passion and skill (not to mention guts, with no safety standards or devices!).

I remember seeing (and hearing!) this car at the old Kyalami race circuit. That V12 made a unique noise (actually, it was more like a howl).

The thing I like most about these cars is demonstrated right here on this build. You get to see the effort that goes into the detailing, without having to remove all the covers to display.

Graham

Thanks all :)

It was my first try to use BMF for something else than heat shields etc - I started on the bottom of the wing, and used a q-tip to slowly brush it on, then around the edge and so on, it worked nice at the first try.

I fell in love with those old cars after playing Grand Prix Legends... I'd do anything for an Eagle Weslake in 1/12...

I absolutely adore this era of Formula 1 cars, even if they weren't sucessess (RA273 anyone?), they always looked the absolute dogs' proverbials so it's always nice to see a lesser known car built up and what a good job you've done here.
What you want to do now, is build the other 1/12 Formula one cars circa 1960-1970 that are available....

I've already done the Lotus49 and the RA273 (see my sig), so only the 312B left from 60-70... ok, the Lotus was an early project, I could do it better now, maybe I'll try to get a new one...

Looking exceptionally clean, especially since you mention how old the kit is. Good job.

I built that kit about 40 years ago and didn't end up with a good build, so a few years later I tossed it. Yours looks so good I wish I'd kept it!
