i was reading this post awhile back on this about people argueing about whats better an auto or a standard and i just want to give my two cents on that subject i have two opinions in the straight away icould easyily see y an auto would kick a standard for one reason your going straight an auto with a good shift kit and a fat engine behind it not a problem BUT for a rice a ronie car with an 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder and on a track with corners and having to slow down a standard does it all for one you can use your torque in the standard for one slow down the car keep alot more traction going to your tires and you can always keep your revs up to whatever you want with an auto you have 3 gears and OD which isnt used unless your cruisin on the freeway or trying to save gas-----i think its crazy that some americans sorry for the lableing that they would think an auto is better yes of course an auto is better for the lazy folks who like to eat chicken and watermelon drink and smoke while they drive but for power performance and all around greatness a standard kicks ass---i have had a chevy sprint lol with a standard and i though that kicked ass also had a jeep that i still have and i know the standard is much better in the then an auto would ever be but thats just my two cents anyone else can agree to disagree oh yeah im from canada

canadien eh

yeah the theory about an auto kicking a manual in straight line can be true,, i know of stock automatic 4-speed trans ams that have better 1/8 and 1/4 mile times than manual 6-speed ws6's. also aside from speed i think where you live plays a part to which is "better." if you live out in the country or an open area then it'd probly be more fun to drive stick,, but in a big city or crowded area with lots of lights manuals become more of a hassel than anything. it also wears down your gears a lot faster when you have to downshift every 20 feet.

i would have to say that u guys are right...it all depends on what u want the car for...draging or track racing....but for me and this is only me tlking...i am 100% a stick man i just love the feeling of being able to shift, in my opion u drive a standerad and an automatic drives u...and the thing about the city is, there is no harder city to drive in with a standard then halifax, all it is, is a giant hill with buildings on it...and i still couldnt see my self driving an auto through it......oh yea one more thing...standards sound waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better then ne auto ever has

only thing i like about autp is that u can just hit the beake instead of having to hit the clutch then the brake(if u have to do that on a manual).

in my opion u drive a standerad and an automatic drives u

best quote ever. you nailed it. automatics are boring to drive, and as far as city driving, i've been a standard guy all my life, and hate driving auto in the city as well. only advantage an auto has is it makes it easier to drive with your knees while eating...

Automatic transmissions were invented for women.

the only way an auto is better to use in a real world environment, drag racing a car faster than 8 seconds in the 1/4. you really cant shift as fast as you need to and be consistant in a manual car at those times, especially when you are looking to get as close to break-out as possible.

any other time, I choose manual over auto, I like to drive, not ride.

I wish they made grand prix's manual:(

not for the grand prix, but for the grand am they had a concept car called the Grand Am SC/T that was a 5-speed manual with a supercharged 3.4L v6 (the 3400 mfi engine). would've been pretty cool to see that make production.

Good thing I don't drive a slow manual. Especially with the M90 and 2.6L stroker. I make as much HP or more than you do  (just pickin on ya)

just let me get the car finished and on the road (intake mani, header, and a few other little pieces still coming). Waiting for parts is a real pain in the rear.

What pulley are you running on the m90?

it's a gen one from a Thunderbird S/C, stock pulley is 3" IIRC, on the stock crank diameter (6.1"), I'll be at 2:1 and 14,400RPM at engine redline (7200).

I'm trying to get the info on the actual PSI I'll be putting out at current pulley sizes. I will say this, I'm going to keep the boost at or below 10 psi until the stroker is complete, since it's being built for forced induction.

got the numbers...23.5psi on a stock set of pullies, and it will be running quite cool at that pressure. I need to vent the extra pressure, to get to like 7-10 psi, so I think I'm going for a wastegate type setup to keep the engine in one piece until the stroker is done.

Nice, I'm not very familiar with the SC T-bird motors or anything else on them. Actually I didn't know they used an m90. Do you have any pics of the engine bay? Any 1/4 times?

I'm still in the building stage. manifold almost done. need the fuel pump and LT1 fuel regulator.

when I'm totally done, I should make about 500HP. at 300 HP (stage one of the project) I'll be in the low 13's. I'm not going for much faster than that, it's an enjoyment car, not a racing car. I'll update as I go.

Wow that sounds pretty awesome hotbug. I want to do something like that someday too but *sigh* college is much more important for me right now. Good luck getting all your mods done :).
