Daihatsu has been known for its hot hatches, like the Charade GTI-i and the Coure Avanzato TR-XX R4. These are all truely Q-Cars, with understated looks but excellent performance. I recently found out that Daihatsu produces a hot version of the understated Sirion supermini called the X4 it uses a rally bred 4WD system and a manic 700cc Turbocharged engine which produces 120bhp.Along with the stripped out cabin and tuning from DRS. This vehicle sounds mental and I've only seen on the net and on Grand Tourismo.

So whats it like??

Do you own a Sirion(Storia in Japan) X4??

Tell me what its like?

Hello,

Up to a while ago I had two, now I only have one.

As standard they left the factory with 140bhp but regulations mean
it is turned down via wastegate adjustment nut to 120bhp.

I ran my previous one around 130-135bhp about 20psi.

It is 713cc so that it can compete in motorsport classes of
up to 1000cc. (x 1.4)

As it is 4WD they removed excess weight, ie little soundproofing
etc etc. The interior is pretty sparce but functional.
Weighs 810kg.

On test mine did 0-60 in 6.6.
(I also got 55mpg from it too!)

It was full time 4WD with 60% power to the rear, it has front and rear clutch LSD (pretty fearce) and a viscous coupling in the middle.
Uprated suspension, bushes all round etc etc.
It has a close ratio gearbox and max speed is around 120mph when
it hits the 9000rpm rev limiter.

The GT3 version of the car doesn't do the performance justice only
the handling.

It is beautiful to drive and allows you to powerslide and drift the car
to your hearts content.

I sprinted / hillclimbed the car in competion and in my first season I won the championship class, and broke the lap record, which had stood since 1998 by 3 seconds on the long course and 1.5 seconds on the short
course.

I also broke the lap record of the class above which was the up to 2000cc class which included Honda Civic Type R's, Clio 182's etc that
sort of thing.

Off the line it will pull the 64 foot in 2.35 seconds on standard road
tyres which is almost... 1g of off the line acceleration and a match for
most slick shod single seater F3 style cars.

In a qtr/mile drag fight it will beat a Honda type R.

My latest one, has all the DRS competition bits on it bringing power
up to 196bhp, its lighter etc and when tested after modification its performance is 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and 0-100mph in 8.9 seconds.

My competitors have done their best to get this one banded.

I can provide links to motorsport site where you can see timesheets
etc if you want any evidence of how it beats flashier cars on the
track.

Regards

Dane.

Hi

I'm the guy who bought Danes road version and I race it at home in Jersey, CI. In my first sprint I beat the class record in the wet and broke the hillclimb class record by 4.99 seconds (that was my first ever hillclimb) and beat the time for the upto 2000cc class by 0.25 seconds.

There is another sprint in a few weeks here and provided it is dry I should be able to knock a second off my current sprint time as my practice run in the damp was over half a second faster than the official run and I had too much wheelspin and fluffed a gearchange

I can vouch for the fact the car is a seriously quick piece of kit in competition

Cheers
