i've read in "4th Gen FAQ" that d16a6 is a "direct bolt in engine" for a 4g civic. i have '91 civic dx with d15b1 (70hp, SOHC, dual point injection) engine in it, and since i wanted to do some power upgrade, i was considering the option of dropping d16a6 (108hp) in it. unfortunately, i wasn't able to find such engine, but came up with a d16a7 (115hp), though. as it seems to me, these two are almost the same engines (both SOHC, multi point injection), except the fact that d16a6 comes with catalytic converter (so i've read here - http://www.civic4g.com/specslow.htm). having that in mind, would it be possible to drop d16a7 in my car, without too much trouble, as it would with d16a6?
if this swap is doable, what else should i change? i know i would have to change DPFI to MPFI, but would i have to change the ecu as well? current ecu is PM5, i believe...
if the swap is not possible, could someone please tell me what's the difference between theese two engines, and also recommend "easy to do" swap with engines from europe domestic market...

big thanx

In South Africa we had the D16A7 instead of the D16A6, because we have no emissions controls down here... the D16A7 is otherwise exactly the same as the A6. Except for no Cat converter. The swap will be exactly the same as with a D16A6... but you should try to convert to multipoint injection. Best power setup for the D16A7... I think you will only need to get an ECU from an Si...

hmmmm... my car has a catalitic converter, and here in croatia we have rather strict emission controls. if i did that swap, and left my current catalitic converter, would this combo be able to have same emission results as the d16a6 engine?
ofcourse, with the cat converter, i would lose some horsepower, but i guess that's the price i have to pay "if i wanna go faster" :)

It would be exactly the same as the D16A6 then...
