Group Build Idea- Build a Figure!

Anyone up for a group build?

Years ago we did one here (back when things were a little more active). Everyone built the same kit, but built it out in their own way. Was a lot of fun, we saw some really cool versions. (Extra points if you remember what kit we used. Even more extra points if you still have yours!)

I happened to see a month or so ago that Tamiya has released a new Campus Fiends Set (https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/24356/index.htm). I loved the original, and had to get the new one. And then it occurred to me- I really ought to, you know, build a figure. Small, quick(ish), not obnoxiously difficult- and can add a fun new dimension to modeling. So I'm going to build one.

And then it occurred- hey, this would actually be a great little kit for a group build!

And then it occurred- you know, there are recently a whole lot of really great 1/24 figure sets. The last few years seem to have brought an unexpected renaissance of 1/24 figures:

-Tamiya has the new and original Campus Fiends, rally mecs and drivers, plus they've been including more driver figures in some of their recent offerings.

-Hasegawa has put out a half dozen or so sets of girls.

-Master Box (http://www.mbltd.info/figures/1-24-scale.html), Aurora (https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/FB035C2E-5E29-4FD4-B0ED-64CBE62AC42C?ingress=0&visitId=09800a3d-2a85-44c0-b3ed-a4adda8a1ade&ref_=ast_bln), ScaleProcuction (https://www.scaleproduction.de/?cat=c12_Figures-1-24-Figures-1-24.html), there are actually a lot of fun options out there. Nearly all are easily available from online vendors, and most are pretty cheap!

So- Group Build proposal: build a 1/24 figure. (Or 1/12, or whatever scale is appropriate for the cars/bikes you build)

Some guidelines to consider:

-Pick a figure kit you like, and build.

-Out of the box, heavily modified, whatever you feel like.

-With a car/bike/scooter is great. Without a vehicle is great, too.

-Post some finished pics. In progress posts encouraged, but not required.

-Don't paint the eyes white! I mean it! Unless you're figure is 1/12 or larger, it's not going to work. We can talk about why, and how to deal with it later- but meanwhile don't do it. :grinno:

-Due date- later this year. Maybe the end of the year. Gallery, contest, prizes, FOTY, whatever.

Questions, thoughts, ideas, rants?

Anyone in?

Cool.

Is there a figure of him, or are you going to modify one to make him?

There's a figure of him.

I am in, if I can get the figure I want.....

Can I build my own figure, not out from kit?

Yes, definitely yes.

So, I want to start. Do I need to create a new thread? http://3dmag.org/en/market/item/6204/

...Good question.

In the past, we'd always do individual in progress and completed threads. And we could certainly do that now, too.

But I'd be pleasantly surprised if we get a half dozen or more people to participate. We could probably do one combined in progress thread. Post as many (or as few) pics as you like as you build along. Then we could do a combined finished thread too?

There's probably not a wrong answer. Thoughts or preferences?

Well that's probably enough discussion, then.

So let's try something a bit different- a communal group build thread. Post your in progress figure builds and related discussions here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=7226976#post7226976).

Andy, count me in.
I'll build a 1/24 Sandro Munari in combat suit :)
He was tiny and tall over early seventies... I guess I'll sculpt a spare head to use over a race driver figurine.
I own as well those old campus set (s.... I got a few :) ) and I ever loved those tiny vespa.... :), may be Sandro on vespa :)
