BMW 2002 photo etch window trim question

Hi guys,

I've only built a few models so far and dabbled with a bit of photo etch as well. I like how it looks on the models for belt buckles and grilles.

My question relates using the photo etch for window trims. I have seen the Renaissance BMW 2002 etch sets advertised but there isn't a huge ammount of parts on the set. What I want to know is how the PE window trims generally look on a build. You have them moulded on the body already so do you sand these moulded parts off and fit the etch in place? Does it generally look better? I get the impression that from a distance the moulded ones are not unrealistic and have a shape to them unlike the PE which is flat. I'm not sure I see the point in all instances. I assume I'm missing something?

Any input before I purchase is appreciated.

Thanks

I certainly wouldn't bother with PE window trim. In my opinion, bare metal foil will give superior results with much less effort- that's how I will go about it when I build mine.
