Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC 2001

Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC 2001

This is Tamiya's kit of the new model Subaru Impreza WRC that debuted on the 2001 Monte Carlo rally and went on to clinch the world drivers championship for Richard Burns and co-driver Robert Reid.

Once again the kit is of Tamiya's usual high quality with added extras such as the Studio 27 photo-etch set, miniature racing harness' and turned metal aerial bases. The chassis went together pretty quickly and here I added the inner foil from a cigarette packet to replicate heat reflective material along the transmission tunnel and although it obviously cannot be seen from the outside of the car does give a good finishing touch to the interior.

The body and chassis were sprayed with the proper Tamiya paint no. TS-50 which to begin with I was a little unsure about, but when finished I think it is O.K. The decals were, as I had heard a little brittle, and great care had to be taken when placing and moving around the fluorescent decals, especially the large 'swoosh' on each side but overall when finished Tamiya have created another top rate replica.
