Reji Skoda Octavia WRC Evo 2 2001

1/24 Reji Skoda Octavia WRC Evo 2

This is the Reji kit of the Skoda Octavia WRC rally car that competed in the Monte Carlo Rally 2001. Having never seen a Reji kit before I didn't know quite what to expect. Reji are a Czechoslovakian company and the kit was relatively cheap for a full resin kit so didn't expect too much. On first impressions the body moulding looked pretty good, a lot of flash etc. to clean up but it should be okay. Most of the other parts were also resin apart from a few detail photoetch parts, these also required a lot of 'cleaning up' before painting.

The first major problem that I came across was the ride height, the rear sat too high and the front too low. The front end was easily sorted by elongating the holes that the solid front axle ran through and then holding the axle in the correct position by glueing washers onto the chassis to hold the axle in place. The rear end axle sat underneath a resin strip moulded to the chassis, this was gradually filed away until the axle was high enough. The rest of the chassis went without problems (there isn't much detail in this kit so not much to go wrong really). Once to body was painted white with the green stripes around the front and rear bumpers time for the decals. These were, in my opinion very good, not too thin, not too thick and they went on very well indeed.

The next problem I had was the windows. A pattern is supplied to cut each individual window from the plastic supplied, The front and rear screens are cut from curved vacuum formed sheet but the side windows are cut from flat sheet which is not ideal, after quite a bit of trimming and second attempts for the side windows they were fitted, also the lights are cut from the same flat sheet and could be a lot better.

Once all the photoetched parts were added to the body and Sakatsu aerials and bases were fitted the body was fitted to the chassis and overall the kit doesn't look too bad, certainly not the quality previous resin kits I've built by Studio 27 and Renaissance and it took a lot of work to get it this way, but at least someone is producing kits of cars that are perhaps not so popular or front runners in the WRC etc.
