1/24 Scale Productions Porsche 911 GT1 1998 Le Mans

This is the winning car from Le Mans 1998, the Porsche 911 GT1. It's one of a only a hundred kits made by a German company called Scale Productions. The kit is a very simple one, moulded mostly in resin, with aluminium wheel rims with resin centres, vacuum formed windows and lights, and some photo-etched detail parts. The quality of mouldings was very good, but it was a good job there wasn't much to the kit as it came without any instructions. Thanks must go to Guiddy here for the loan of his magazine Auto-Modelisme featuring photo's of all the cars from Le-Mans 1998 (this has been an invaluable help for all of the models I've built from this race).

The kit was built as standard, except I used a different type of carbon-fibre decal for the rear wing (that which came with the kit looked a bit odd). The model went together well, the trickiest parts being the lights and trying to put the rear panel in place at the rear of the body, fingers crossed that it wouldn't snap in half. The paint finish came out really well, but the decals were a little difficult, to keep them from folding and to try and place them symmetrically so both sides of the body matched.
