Revell Corvette C5-R Le Mans 2000

1/25 Revell Corvette C5-R Le Mans 2000

This is the Corvette C5-R that raced at Le-Mans in the year 2000, it raced in the GTS class against it's main rival, the Dodge Viper GTS-R.

The kit is a made by Revell, and although on first inspection the mouldings looked pretty good when it came to assembling the kit, things were a little more difficult.

The chassis and interior went together fairly well, although some parts didn't fit that well. A good idea, I thought, was that some carbon decal, cut to shape was included for the rear diffuser and parts of the engine. When I came to fit the body, prior to painting, I discovered that although the body sat about right on the chassis, the chassis had too much ground clearance, so I had to lower the chassis by about 2-3mm. The body also required a few modifications. A scoop on the roof was not on the real car, so that had to be removed and the gap filled and a couple of intakes around the front on the road car were not on the race car, so they too were filled in. I also decided to add the large night driving lights at the front. These were taken from an old rally car kit that didn't use them, a holder was made for them to sit in, a hole was cut into the front of the body and they were glued into place, finally a clear piece was stuck over the front of the lights as a shield. After all the modifications, the body turned out really well and the decals went on perfectly. The final finishing touches were turned metal aerial bases with wire aerials, seat belts and a photo-etched window net rather than the plastic one supplied with the kit.
