Racing 43 SEAT Cordoba WRC 1998

1/24 Racing 43 SEAT Cordoba WRC 1998

This is a model of the Seat Cordoba WRC made by the Italian company Racing 43. It is actually a 1/24th scale (not 1/43rd as the company name suggests) white metal kit with photo-etched details. The car is modelled on the car that rallied on the Network Q Rally of Great Britain in 1998, particularly the stages of the opening day of the event which were run around stately homes, vehicle proving grounds and racetracks where the cars ran with the larger tarmac spec wheels rather than the smaller gravel wheels.

The model fitted together alright, some parts better than others and the instructions left a lot to be desired, the trickiest part was drilling the holes in the chassis for the axles to go through, drill them in the wrong place and the ride height could be all wrong or the wheelbase on either side of the car could be different. The only other problem was the rollcage but being white metal it was easy to bent into the right shape.

The body was O.K. no problems there, although when applying the white number squares over the blue decal applied beforehand I discovered that the white decal was very thin and the blue showed through, too late by then though. Finishing went well and overall a very pleasing result.
