Tamiya Nissan R390 GT1 1998

1/24 Tamiya Nissan R390 GT1 1998 Le Mans

This is the Nissan R390 GT1 that raced at Le Mans in 1998. It is a combination of the Tamiya kit of the car that raced the year before and a transkit made by Renaissance, which is basically a complete longtail body moulded in resin, a new decal sheet and some photo-etched detail parts.

The chassis, being all Tamiya went together without any problems as expected, but the body was a little more tricky. If you compare the 1997 GT1 against the body shape of the 1998 car you can see that the main difference is that the tail is extended for more downforce. The painting was fairly straight forward, just two colours, light blue at the front and a darker blue at the back, the join between the colours cannot be seen as it is covered by decals which although a little tricky in places went on quite well. Getting the windows and lights to fit the body was a bit more tricky, but with a bit of cutting, filing and sanding it all went together in the end.

Overall though, the finished kit does look pretty impressive.
